Dear Friends,
Early last September, we initiated a 6pm Sunday evening Mass. We wanted to see if this option might better meet the needs of families that were out of town much of the weekend and create another option for young families. We also wanted to better engage our young people in the ministries of this liturgy. We knew there would be challenges, but it was worth the effort.

We now have eight months’ experience with the Sunday evening Mass. At the end of December, our weekly average attendance was 141 people. Since the first of this year, our average weekly attendance on Sunday evening has dropped to 114. This has been a service which typically included 30% to 40% non-parishioners. We currently have six Sunday Masses (including the Saturday evening Vigil Mass) and we only have one mass that exceeds 300 attendees, our Spanish Mass. We’ve struggled to sign up ministers and have not seen attendance goals to justify our continuation of this liturgy.

For these reasons, our parish staff and parish council have made the decision to discontinue the Sunday 6pm Mass. The final Sunday evening Mass will take place on June 2nd. Thanks to all who helped make this service possible these past 8 months.

El año pasado a principios de septiembre, iniciamos una misa dominical a las 6 pm. Queríamos ver si esta opción podría satisfacer mejor las necesidades de las familias que estaban fuera de la ciudad gran parte del fin de semana y crear otra opción para las familias jóvenes. También queríamos involucrar mejor a nuestros jóvenes en los ministerios de esta liturgia. Sabíamos que habría desafíos pero valió la pena el esfuerzo.

Ahora tenemos ocho meses de experiencia con la Misa dominical por la tarde. A finales de diciembre nuestra asistencia promedio semanal era de 141 personas. Desde principios de este año, nuestra promedio de asistencia semanal, los domingos por la tarde se redujo a 114. Este ha sido un servicio que generalmente incluía entre un 30% y un 40% de no feligreses. Actualmente tenemos seis Misas dominicales (incluida la Misa de Vigilia del sábado por la noche) y solo tenemos una misa que supera los 300 asistentes, nuestra Misa en español. Hemos tenido dificultades por inscribir ministros y no hemos visto una constancia en la asistencia que justifique la continuación de esta liturgia.

Por estas razones, nuestro personal y consejo parroquial, han tomado la decisión de suspender la Misa del domingo a las 6 p.m. La última misa del domingo por la tarde se llevará a cabo el 02 de junio. Gracias a todos los que ayudaron a hacer posible este servicio durante los últimos 8 meses.
