Welcome to Holy Rosary Parish
Saturday, 31 July 2010 00:00

Dear Friends,

Well, it’s been almost eight months since I moved out of the Vocation Office for our Diocese. This past week there were a number of opportunities to visit with some of the seminarians and prospects that I had worked with over the years. Most of them were just touching base before departing for the new school year.

Many of the people that I speak with are concerned with the diminished number of priests that we have in our diocese. (This is not just a struggle in our area.) A lot of folks lament the old days when their parish had three priests assigned at any given time. Some of those parishes are now happy just to have a resident pastor. There is no small amount of anxiety among many of our parishioners about the priest shortage…… Try to imagine the pressure that puts upon these seminarians. They carry the weight of our expectations along with the same anxiety about how church will look in the days ahead.

We are blessed to have some fine young men studying for our diocese. Please keep them in prayer as they begin this new year of formation.

Christ’s Peace

Fr. Bernie Etienne

Diocese of Evansville Strageic Planning Survey
Bishop Gettelfinger has commissioned a Diocesan strategic planning process to re-energize parish life throughout the diocese and to establish a future direction for the diocese over the next five years. This whole effort should take about a year, and this survey is one of the first steps. If you would like to share your input, please click here to access the survey sponsored by the Diocese of Evansville.  Please be assured that your input will be anonymous.

Saint of the Day

Saint of the Day
  • St. Gregory the Great (September 3, 2010)
Coming events cast their shadows before: Gregory was the prefect of Rome before he was 30. After five years in office he resigned, founded six monasteries on his Sicilian estate and became a Benedictine monk in his own home at Rome.
