Home Sacraments Anointing of the Sick
Anointing of the Sick

Anointing of the Sick is one of the seven Sacraments by which the Church commends to the glorified Lord the faithful who are dangerously sick so that He can relieve and save them. The Sacrament is administered by a bishop or priest to a member of the faithful who begins to be in danger due to sickness or old age. The epistle of James (5:14-15) notes that anointing the sick and infirm with oil, in the name of the risen Jesus, will help strengthen them and heal them. In the New Testament anointing alludes to messianic joy, honor, healing of the sick and the forgiveness of sin.

This sacrament is offered periodically at a special Mass during the year and by request upon the onset of illness. Call the parish office 812-477-8923 when in need of this Sacrament.

Funeral arrangements can be made by calling the parish office at 812-477-8923.

  • St. Gregory the Great (September 3, 2010)
Coming events cast their shadows before: Gregory was the prefect of Rome before he was 30. After five years in office he resigned, founded six monasteries on his Sicilian estate and became a Benedictine monk in his own home at Rome.
